No stranger to picking up specific Marvel film licenses, this wave of DST's Minimates were released to hit the stores ready for May 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie, and featured a Wolverine in every set, plus some supporting characters from the film. We kick off with a set containing Logan and his primary antagonist, Sabretooth.

Packaging

Wave 26 packaging remains the same as previous waves, however the look is much more understated with the black packaging.

The back of the box has the whole wave pictured, and the bio boxes are still present, hinting at plot developments in the film without giving too much away.

The Figures

Logan

This is Logan taken from around midway through the film, having given up the life of a secret ops agent. I have to be specific to which part of the film the Wolverine Minimates are from, mainly cos we get pretty much every single outfit variation of him during this wave and the exclusives!

This is a nice likeness of Hugh Jackman as Logan, you can clearly see it's meant to be him. The snarl is not too big at this point, and the hair is actually a very nice, tidy hairpiece; far removed from some of the messier Wolverine hairpieces we've had in the line.

The outfit detailing is really good. The puffy jacket is sleeveless, so you can remove it and reveal the brown undershirt fully, giving him two looks. Normally when you remove a jacket piece the arms don't match the underneath but here that's not an issue. The shirt has buttons and you can just about see his dog tags. The shirt has rolled up sleeves, and these get a ring on each forearm to depict this. Below the sleeves, Logan has arm hair.

At this stage in the film Logan just has his bone claws, and these look excellent, much thicker and more deadly than the silver versions which sometimes can look a little weedy.

Logan finally gets something I've been asking for for years - an extra set of unclawed hands.

In conclusion, this is a pretty solid representation of Logan from the Wolverine film. With so many to choose from in this wave, I would imagine that the other, non-Wolverine Minimate of each 2-pack is more of a consideration for your buying habits, but it's still a nice figure regardless.

Sabretooth

Sabretooth has known Wolverine a long, long time. The were brought up together as part of an elite black ops unit, but Victor's bloodthirstiness was too much for Logan to take. Now Sabretooth is back, and he wants revenge on Logan!

This Minimate also has a good likeness, there's a lot of Liev Schreiber in there. The expression is one of fury, surely one of the most aggressive-looking Minimate expressions ever. This works for the character, especially at this specific point in the film.

Sabretooth is dressed up like a refugee from the Matrix. The X-Men films always tried to ground the superhero and villain outfits into being much more believable, and Sabretooth has a pretty basic black shirt and trousers, and a long black trenchcoat. Not much detail to get excited about here, but that's not really the fault of the Minimate. The trenchcoat has been sculpted with a bit of movement to it, to make it look like it's flowing. Apart from the barest shirt detailing and a silver buckle, there's not much else to say.

Sabretooth gets unique hands, sculpted with his razor-sharp talons. These actually look a little silly in person. I don't know why, but they just aren't all that threatening. Previous Minimates with clawed hands have faired much better. Sabretooth also gets an M-16 rifle. At least, I believe it comes with him rather than Logan, but he can't hold it very well with the new claw-hands.

In conclusion, movie Sabretooth isn't all that exciting, partly due to the concept, and partly due to the execution. However, this is his most well known look in the movie and he is essential to the story as Wolverine's main villainous foe, so he has that going for him.
