Marvel Minimates Toyfare Exclusive - Power Man and Iron Fist

Here we have a Toyfare exclusive pack containing the Heroes for Hire, Luke Cage aka Power Man and Danny Rand, who is Iron Fist.

Packaging

The packaging is the now-usual Marvel Minimates box as seen in the last 3 waves. It features the Marvel Universe logo and also has the faces on the side of the box.

The figures are packed in a bubble tray, and have no twist-ties holding them in. Instead, a second clear tray piece fits over the top and then locks in, meaning that these figures are held in well and can be seen from each side.

The picture on the back of the packaging is the same as the Wolverine/Mariko exclusive set, which isn't the same as wave 6's. Maybe wave 7 will have the same picture as this one. There is a Wizard/Toyfare logo on the back.

The Figures

Power Man

The first figure in this set is Power Man, Luke Cage. He has a determined expression on his face, looking all business. The strange thing about the detailing on the face is that his lower lip hasn't been outlined in the comic-book style black line. It has been on the packaging pictures. Whether this is a missed paint app or not is unclear. The hairpiece has a silver band going all the way around, and the silver is applied slightly blotchily.

The costume is bright and looks good, with nice detailing on the open shirt and exposed muscles. The wristbands also have some black lines on to break up the grey and look very nice. The chain "belt" has also been well executed. However, the lower torso has a lot of problems. First, because the trousers are blue, that has been made the base colour whilst the yellow of the boots has been added afterwards. On my figure, the yellow is very streaky, allowing a lot of the blue through to make a muddy-looking yellow. In addition, the paint lines are very haphazard, with 2 clear scrapes on his right shin. On the back of the same piece, there is an area which simply hasn't received any yellow paint at all. It looks needlessly shoddy and spoils the look of an otherwise excellent figure.

Power Man comes with no accessories, but like the other summer exclusives, he does have the C3 feet which still haven't made it into the main Marvel line yet.

Overall, Power Man is a good addition to the Minimates but the paint apps really let it down.

Iron Fist

The second figure in the set is Iron Fist, the martial arts expert. The head is very distinctive. First off Iron Fist has a skull-cap rather than a helmet or cowl. It's a unique-looking piece and has been implemented very well, fitting nicely on the head and over the eyes. Around the back, the trailing material after the knot curls around the raised collar rather than clashing against it, which is another nice touch. As always on the Minimates, the cap is removable, revealing a very nicely detailed face. The steely yet serene expression and the blue eyes and blond hair are very reminiscent of how Steve Rogers looks under the Captain America mask.

The costume Iron Fist has is fantastic. It's bright (green and yellow), it looks different due to several unique pieces, and it works well in Minimate form. First off, the pronounced "V" on the front of the costume which leads into the high collar looks great. The yellow belt is also nice. The detailing on the actual body is interesting as well. In a first for the Minimates line, Iron Fist appears to have a reversible torso. On one side is the serpent scar that he got when he slayed an other-worldly serpent. The other side has the more usual muscular definition detailing. This means you can change the look of Iron Fist simply by reversing the block. The overall paint job is OK, there are some sloppy areas but nothing annoying.

Iron Fist comes with one accessory - a translucent pink ball that fits over his hand. Because of the colour and the translucence, one of my colleagues initially thought it was a condom. Having to describe that it was a representation of mystical chi energy that makes Iron Fist's hand practically invulnerable didn't really help! Regardless, it's a very cool accessory. Iron Fist is also one of the few Marvel Minimates to have C3 feet.

Overall, Iron Fist is one of the more unique Minimates available and scores highly because of this.
