Here we have a pack containing two very different heroes, the invincible Iron Man and Ghost Rider.

Packaging

The packaging is the now-usual Marvel Minimates box as seen in waves 4 and 5. It features the Marvel Universe logo and also has the faces on the side of the box. I know Ghost Rider isn't really part of the Iron Man character set but I would have loved to see an Iron Man logo on the side of the box. Maybe the upcoming Classic Iron Man/Silver Centurion pack (as it contains only Iron Men) will have it.



The figures are packed in a bubble tray, and have no twist-ties holding them in. Instead, a second clear tray piece fits over the top and then locks in, meaning that these figures are held in well and can be seen from each side.

The Figures

Iron Man

The first figure in this set is Tony Stark, who wears a high-tech suit of armour as Iron Man. The helmet is well done, bright red and yellow with black highlighting on the eyes and mouth slit.

Whilst it looks nice, though, the helmet is the main flaw with this figure. It's too small for his head, which means you can slide it on his head without incident but makes it almost impossible to remove. The general concensus is that if your helmet is stuck (stop sniggering at the back there!) then putting Iron Man in the freezer for an hour or so should work. Simply retrieve your frosty Minimate, and the icy water droplets should mean that the helmet slides off.

The vivid colours and bold detailing are also apparent on the rest of the figure. Much like the Silver Surfer, black highlights have been added to the arms and legs to make the figure look less plain, which it works very well and adds to the cartoony vibe. Another nice touch is the left hand, which is molded in an open position to look like Iron Man is firing his palm lasers.

Just like the Juggernaut, Iron Man comes with a spare hair piece for when he's not wearing his helmet. This is a nice touch, and certainly welcome, but I don't really regard it as an actual accessory.

Overall, Iron Man works very well in Minimate form. The possibility of more armours is welcome, but the helmet issue must be ironed out (zing!).

Ghost Rider

The second figure in the set is the Ghost Rider, who despite looking like a villain, is actually one of the good guys. The head and hairpiece have been well executed. The colour and expression on the skull is really good, with a lot of detailing added to make Ghost Rider's face one of the best yet seen in Minimate form. The translucent orange hairpiece does manage to adequately convey Ghost Rider's flaming noggin.

The costume is simply detailed, being mainly dark grey, but the shoulder/neck piece is nicely done, making him look larger and more menacing. The paint job is flawless, especially pleasing on more complex parts like the wrist studs.

Ghost Rider comes with one accessory, a several-inch long chain which you can wrap around him. He really needed his flaming motorcycle, but AA can't include vehicles in with the Minimates due to licensing issues.

Overall, Ghost Rider is a unique Minimate who has been executed well and is highly recommended.
