Marvel Minimates Wave 8 Chase - Invisible Woman

Here we have a pack containing Powerhouse Thing, and Wave 8's chase figure, Susan Richards utilising her powers as the Invisible Woman. As I have already reviewed Powerhouse Thing this review will concentrate only on the Invisible Woman.

Packaging

The packaging features the Marvel Universe logo and the chase figure is clearly identified, with a "VARIANT ENCLOSED" banner on the corner of the box front.

The figures are packed in a bubble tray, and have no twist-ties holding them in. Instead, a second clear tray piece fits over the top and then locks in, meaning that these figures are held in well and can be seen from each side.

The back of the packaging is new and only shows waves 8 and 9.

The Figure

Invisible Woman

From having no clear or translucent Minimates for ages after the line's inception, we are now flooded with them - Gamma Hulk, Twilight Frodo (in two clear colours, no less) wave 9's diamond form of the White Queen, the Super Skrull's feet, and this one, the Invisible Woman. You won't hear me complaining - I love the clear Minimates, and is one of the best.

The first thing that strikes you about the Invisible Woman is that she isn't one colour. In a very cool touch, she contains both untinted and blue-tinged clear pieces to simulate the darker colours of her costume. This gives her a lot of "depth", making her visually very appealing. As good as she looks in pictures, it's even more noticible in real life.

As mentioned above, this is Sue in her costume, so there are the same detailings that the original figure had, but drawn in clear blue against untinted clear. The only change appears to be that for some reason her mouth is slightly more open.

Invisible Woman comes with the same clear "forcefield" shield that the Susan Richards figure came with, and it's just as suitable for her in this form. As with most of wave 8, she has her hairpiece held on with a peg that goes into her head, and also the C3 feet.

Overall, this is a brilliant Minimate. As a variant it makes real sense, and it has been executed very well - this is the best chase figure yet.

MMC Score - 9 out of 10
