Marvel Minimates Wave 2 - Damaged Spider-Man and Venom

Here we have a pack containing a battle-damaged Spider-Man, and the alien symbiote Venom.

Packaging

The packaging features the Spider-Man logo along the side of the card. The figures are packed in a bubble tray, and have twist-ties holding them in, as well as clear elastic bands holding their arms to their sides.

The figures look nice in the package, even damaged, Spider-Man's colours are bright, and Venom's black is a good contrast.

The Figures

Damaged Spider-Man

Ow! Spidey's taken a beating First out of the set, we have a variant of the earlier Spider-Man figure. The difference between this Spider-Man and the first one is that this guy has taken a beating and has the scars and scrapes to prove it.

Interestingly, this variant has cropped up before - the 6 inch Toybiz action-figure lines of "Spider-Man Classics" and the "Spider-Man Movie" both featured a damaged Spider-Man, so it's a nice addition to have.

The damage begins with the mask, as one eyepiece has been ripped out, exposing Peter Parker's eye, and also the mouth of the mask has been ripped off, revealing a bleeding lip and an angry snarled expression.

The paint application is again very complex but very clean and clear. In addition to the costume markings and webbing details of the earlier Spider-Man, this figure's costume sports a torn shoulder, which shows off additional scratch marks, and other rents and tears. The detail is extremely good. They have even added in the ripped costume underneath the hole, to give the effect that it is hanging off in tatters. Not even his lower body has been spared - he also has a rip in his leggings.

Like the first Spidey, Damaged Spider-Man comes with a grey web-line that he can hold in his hand, and nothing blocking the 14 articulation points.

Overall, this figure, although it is a variant, is still different enough to warrant getting as the Battle Damage effects have been executed very well.

Venom

We are venom to you now, Spider-Man The second figure is Venom, comprised of the alien symbiote costume Peter Parker used to wear, but now bonded to Eddie Brock, both of whom hate Spider-Man with a passion.

Venom is mainly black, with white detailing. His face has 2 huge, jagged eyes and an insanely grinning mouth, crammed with sharp teeth. He has the white spider-logo very cleanly painted on, which goes round his sides and joins up to repeat the logo on the back. He also has white spots on his "gloves". The lower body is completely black.

Venom also has different-shaped hands to those of a normal Marvel Minimate. They are molded to be 3-fingered claw-like hands, which can still grip other accessories. Venom also comes with the same grey web-line that Spider-Man comes with. The only problem with this figure is, like the Hulk figure, I feel Venom should be bigger than Spider-Man, but it would be harsh to criticise it too much for this minor aspect.

Overall, Venom is a great figure, his very simple paint job is very eye-catching and he makes a fine addition to Spidey's rogue's gallery.
